Golden Gate Capital Raises $1.8 Billion for New Private Equity Investment Fund
Fund Will Continue Focus on Middle Market, with the Ability to Selectively Make Larger Investments
San Francisco, CA (August 4, 2004) – Golden Gate Capital, a private equity investment firm, today announced that it has raised a $1.8 billion private equity fund. This is the firm?s second fund, which brings its capital under management to approximately $2.5 billion. Nineteen investments were made from Fund I, which represents $700 million in capital, and is fully committed. Two investments have been made from the new fund.
Golden Gate said that its investors are primarily comprised of limited partners from its first fund and include college endowments, foundations, wealthy individuals and select fund-of-funds. A small number of new investors were added, primarily institutions where relationships developed during the raising of Fund I.
As with Fund I, GGC will primarily seek to make investments in the $20 – $80 million range, with the difference now being the ability to scale up to $200 million plus. The firm believes that this approach will allow it to retain its middle market focus, while also providing flexibility for both opportunistically pursuing larger transactions and supporting portfolio companies as they exploit opportunities to grow by acquisition.
Consistent with Fund I, Golden Gate will continue to be a multi-sector investor. Specific industries that have and will continue to be targeted include software, electronics manufacturing, IT services, media, consumer products, specialty financial services, specialty pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and transportation and logistics.
