SAN FRANCISCO, CA – September 19, 2017 — Angel Island Capital (“AIC”), a San Francisco-based alternative investment advisor and credit manager, today announced the appointment of Dev Gopalan as Chief Executive Officer. AIC was formed in 2008 as a specialty finance portfolio company of Golden Gate Capital, a leading private equity firm with over $15 billion of committed capital under management. Angel Island Capital Management (“AICM”) is a multi-strategy credit platform with approximately $3 billion in invested assets. AICM actively invests across the credit spectrum with a focus on bank loans and high-yield bonds. Rob Little, a Managing Director of Golden Gate Capital and Angel Island Capital Board Member, said, “Over the past several years, Angel Island Capital has undergone an extraordinary evolution, transitioning from a start-up portfolio company of our perpetual fund vehicle, the Golden Gate Capital Opportunity Fund, to a successful investment firm with a truly unique investment approach and strong reputation in the market. We are very excited to welcome Dev as Angel Island’s CEO, and are confident that his skillset and years of industry expertise will build upon AIC’s success to date and help steer the business into its next chapter of growth.”

As CEO, Mr. Gopalan will focus on continuing to enhance the investment process, working with Senior Portfolio Manager Rob Stobo and the senior investment team. In addition, he will work closely with Jon Cohen, Head of Business Development, to grow AIC’s institutional client relationships. Mr. Gopalan said, “I’m honored to take on the role of CEO at Angel Island Capital at such an exciting time for the firm, and to be joining such an exceptional group of investment professionals. I look forward to working with the team to pursue the many opportunities we see for credit investing across the capital structure in today’s evolving landscape.”

Mr. Gopalan previously spent seven years with KKR, where he helped build KKR’s private credit business and was involved in working with institutional investors. Prior to KKR, Mr. Gopalan was a Principal of Private Investments/Private Debt at the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. Earlier in his career, he worked at Barclays Capital, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase in high-yield capital markets as well as high-yield/leveraged loan research covering a variety of sectors. Mr. Gopalan has a Master’s degree in International Finance from Brandeis University and Bachelor degrees in Biology and Economics from Georgetown University.
